Dreams have served as an influence for many a great thinker, New York based artist Renee Brown included. Inspired by the work of renowned dream interpreter, John Paul Jackson, ‘I paint what I see in dreams and visions,’ says Brown, whose dreams let her be master of the past, present and future. Brown’s resulting oeuvre, which is inclusive of figurative and abstract drawing, has a dreamlike quality, where lines and colors are clear and defined, but never jarring or distracting.
– Jennifer Woods, Editor, Art Business News, “50 Emerging Artists, 2012”
Renee Brown’s paintings demonstrate extraordinary diversity, highly skilled execution, and breathtaking depth of feeling.
– Tim Hill, Director of Artbook Press, former head of NYGS Books
…Brown leads the viewer to the Divine Dance, waking up to the music of Wisdom and a mystical Presence. It is a river, a Holy River that runs through her art…an awe-filled complexity relieved at center with her powerful belief in the unifying certainty of God’s presence.

Renee Brown is a widely respected artist and educator. Trained at State University College at Buffalo, Rochester Institute of Technology, and studies in Sienna, Italy, she has been widely exhibited near her home in Buffalo, NY and elsewhere, including the Castle Estense in Ferrara, Italy. As noted by prominent curator, Nancy Weekly, “She is, in particular, a person who was given a second chance. Years ago Renee and her husband Dwight survived a near-fatal automobile accident. Her recent paintings reflect the journey she has taken through a fog of recovery, tapping her unconscious and interpreting her dreams so that she might communicate with others.”
